Faculty of Humanities UI with the Embassy of Italy and Italian Cultural Institute in Jakarta Presented A Theatre Performance by Patrizia La Fonte

The Embassy of Italy And the Italian Cultural Institute in Jakarta in collaboration with the French Studies Program Faculty of Humanities Universitas Indonesia and Progetto Goldstein presented a theater performance, “Maturina, maid and heiress to Leonardo da Vinci” that was written and performed by Patrizia La Fonte. The performance was held in Auditorium Building IX Faculty of Humanities, Depok on 24 February 2020 from 2.30 p.m. The participants were students and lecturers, mainly from French studies program and Italian language course. The welcome speech was delivered by the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Dr. Adrianus Laurens Gerung Waworuntu, S.S., M.A., which was followed by an opening speech by the Director of the Italian Cultural Center Jakarta, Maria Battaglia.

Maturina is a character that was believed to really exist as the heiress and maid of one of the most influential and revered artists in history, Leonardo da Vinci. Maturina was mentioned in Da Vinci’s will, but otherwise nothing is known of her. Maturina, who lived next to Da Vinci in his last years, has her own ideas of people and things, and will not fail to tell the spectators. This performance was delivered in Italian with English subtitles provided on the background screen.
