Faculty of Humanities Universitas Indonesia Proudly Presents A Workshop on What the CEFR Can Do for Writing Test Development

Faculty of Humanities Universitas Indonesia proudly presents a workshop on What the CEFR Can Do for Writing Test Development with the speaker, Prof. Dr. Claudia Harsch (University of Bremen, Germany) at Auditorium Building IV, 19 August 2019 from 09.30 – 12.30. This workshop was attended by English teachers from Universitas Indonesia and International Language Institute of Faculty of Humanities UI.

Prof. Dr. Claudia Harsch is a Professor at the University of Bremen, specializing in language learning, teaching, and assessment. She has worked in Germany and in the UK and is an active in teacher training worldwide. Her research interests focus on areas such as language assessment, educational evaluation and measurement, intercultural communication, and the implementation of the Common European Framework (CEF). She is the current president of the European Association of Language Testing and Assessment.

In the workshop, the participants developed writing tests that were relevant to their own contexts and purposes. The developed tests should use CEFR as a reference, especially to set a CEFR target level for students. CEFR is The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, and Assessment. It is a guideline used to describe achievements of learners of foreign languages across Europe and, increasingly, in other countries.

In this workshop participants were encouraged to discuss with each other about several topics, such as types of writing, writing prompts/contexts, writing output, linguistics knowledge, and task completion. The last session was followed by giving a token of appreciation to the workshop facilitator and taking a group photo with the audience.
