Professor in the Arabic Studies Program and the Department of Area Studies, Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Indonesia
He currently serves as the Head of the Area Studies Department, Faculty of Humanities, University of Indonesia. His writings on humor and Arab culture have appeared in numerous journals and books. Several of his books have been translated into English, French, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Dutch, German, and Spanish. He is currently a member of the International Society of Humor Studies (ISHS) and Institut Humor Indonesia Kini (IHIK) (IHIK).
