Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Indonesia (FIB UI) officially strengthened its international cooperation through the Signing Ceremony & Soft Launching of the Special International Program (KKI) for the Bachelor of Japanese Studies. This landmark event was held on Friday (Aug 7), from 14:00 to 16:00 WIB, in Building 2, FIB UI. The meeting focused on signing the agreement and officially launching the KKI Japanese Studies program in collaboration with Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (TUFS), marking a strategic step toward expanding global educational reach and reinforcing academic synergy between the two institutions.
The event, attended by the leadership of FIB UI, representatives from TUFS, and the FIB UI academic community, was moderated by Chysanti Arumsari, M.A., the Coordinator of Public Relations and Protocol. Representing FIB UI were Dean Dr. Untung Yuwono, S.S., and Vice Dean for Academic, Research, and Student Affairs, Rouli Esther, M.Si., M.A., Ph.D. ; Head of the Japanese Studies Study Program, Dewi Anggraeni, M.Hum., Ph.D.; Head of the Center for Japanese Studies (PSJ) FIB UI, Himawan Pratama, Ph.D.; as well as several managers within FIB UI. Joining the event directly on site were several lecturers from the Japanese Studies program, Japanese Studies student representatives, and Prof. Phillip Seaton (Professor at the School of Japanese Studies, TUFS). Meanwhile, other TUFS leaders attended virtually via Zoom, including Prof. Aoyama Toru (Vice President for IT/CIO, Internal Review and Evaluation, TUFS), Ono Satoko (Director and Division Chief of the Educational Affairs Division, TUFS), and Suganuma Tomoe (Section Chief of the Educational Affairs Division, TUFS).
The series of events continued with welcoming remarks from the leadership of both universities. The remarks opened with the Dean of FIB UI, Dr. Untung Yuwono, S.S., followed by the President of Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, Prof. Haruna Nobuo, who greeted the audience via a recorded video message. After that, remarks were delivered online by Prof. Aoyama Toru as Vice President for IT at TUFS. Through his welcoming remarks, the Dean of FIB UI expressed his hope that although Indonesia and Japan have long enjoyed friendly relations, the presence of this KKI program will serve as a long-term collaboration that further strengthens ties between the two nations while taking concrete steps to advance educational quality at both universities.
Entering the core agenda, both institutions presented a comprehensive overview of the Joint Degree/Double Degree Program. Prof. Phillip Seaton from TUFS introduced the long history of the TUFS campus alongside its lush, welcoming, and inclusive academic environment for all international students, accompanied by detailed explanations regarding the learning curriculum stages students will undergo each year. Aligned with this spirit, the Head of the Japanese Studies Study Program at FIB UI, Dewi Anggraeni, M.Hum., Ph.D., emphasized UI’s commitment to enhancing students’ Japanese language and cultural competencies. She also highlighted the track record of UI Japanese Studies students, who possess rich academic and non-academic achievements across various competitions, while presenting the carefully structured curriculum. She is confident that the UI Japanese Studies Program is ready to move forward together with TUFS in executing this KKI plan.
Through the soft launch of the KKI Japanese Studies program, it is hoped that the synergy between FIB UI and TUFS will not only produce a young generation that is academically excellent and globally competitive, but also further deepen the bonds of friendship and cultur
