The academic community of the Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Indonesia (FIB UI) has once again achieved a proud milestone. Ahmad Husnus Saqib, an undergraduate student in the Javanese Studies Program, was crowned Mas Tourism Ambassador of Pati Regency 2026. This victory was achieved at the Grand Final Night held on Saturday (August 1) as part of the peak celebrations for the 703rd Anniversary of Pati Regency.
Far beyond a beauty pageant, the Pati Regency Tourism Ambassador Selection puts finalists through a comprehensive selection process, ranging from local wisdom debriefing and talent showcases to presenting strategic visions for Pati’s regional potential. Through this rigorous evaluation, the elected ambassadors are entrusted to serve as cultural diplomats and key drivers in advancing Pati Regency’s tourism sector to a broader audience.
For Saqib, winning the title is not merely an endpoint, but the start of a new responsibility. Living away from home as a university student heightened his awareness to give back to his hometown, particularly in promoting Pati’s tourism, arts, and creative economy. Equipped with his academic background and communication skills honed on campus, he is committed to bringing Pati Regency’s narratives and charm to a wider stage.
This mandate serves as a momentum for Saqib to bring Javanese Studies beyond academic walls, ensuring it does not remain merely theoretical. He is determined to transform traditional values into active, relevant elements for the youth. He does not want culture to simply be an ancestral heritage to boast about; rather, he wants it to be understood, nurtured, and developed so that it remains alive in the daily lives of future generations. Furthermore, he emphasized that this achievement is the result of collective support from his family, the guidance of lecturers and the academic community of FIB UI, as well as his peers who have accompanied him throughout his journey.
The journey from the classroom to the stage taught Saqib valuable lessons about the power of process. From a Javanese Studies student who once questioned his direction, he now looks toward the future with renewed confidence. Saqib is determined to keep learning and dedicate his knowledge to creating a tangible impact for his hometown. No matter how far his studies take him, Pati will always be the place he calls home and serves.
