Lecture Series Bincang Budaya of the Board of Professors FIB UI: Examining Solutions to the Israel–Palestine Conflict

The Faculty of Humanities of Universitas Indonesia (FIB UI), through the Board of Professors (DGB), once again organized a public lecture as part of Bincang Budaya lecture series, as an effort to expand the space for critical discourse on cultural issues, including the history of relations between nations. In this edition, the theme raised is “Solution to the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict: Between Two State Solution or One State Solution,” which discusses one of the most complex and long conflicts in modern world history.

The event presented Prof. Yon Machmudi, Ph.D., Professor of FIB UI, as the keynote speaker who explained various perspectives on the dynamics of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, its resolution options, and the implications for the global order. The discussion was moderated by Prof. Dr. R. Tuty Nur Mutia Muas, who guided the event interactively so that participants could better understand the issues from an academic perspective.

The presentation and discussion covered several important points, including the historical record of the background of the conflict and the various peace efforts that have been made, as well as the ups and downs of the conflict to date. The question and answer session that accompanied the event was very open, warm, and inspiring.

The event was held online via Zoom Meeting on Saturday, August 30, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Western Indonesian Time. This forum was open to academics and the general public who are interested in regional studies, international relations, and world peace issues. The opening remarks were delivered by Prof. Agus Aris Munandar, as the Head of DGB FIB UI, who also opened the discussion.

Through this activity, FIB UI reaffirms its commitment as a center for humanities studies that not only focuses on cultural and historical aspects but also actively participates in building cross-cultural understanding and promoting dialogue for peace. Bincang Budaya itself is a regular agenda of the DGB FIB UI, featuring current and reflective themes related to the development of humanities at both local and global levels.
