On Friday, July 18, 2025, the Faculty of Humanities , Universitas Indonesia (FIB UI) received a visit from a delegation from the Chinese Language Center and College of Foreign Languages and Literature, National Chengchi University (NCCU), Taiwan. The visit took place at the FIB UI Administration Center Building in Depok and became an important momentum to explore academic cooperation between the two institutions in the fields of language teaching, student and lecturer exchanges, and the study of East Asia and Southeast Asia.
The event opened with remarks from Dr. Junaidi, S.S., M.A., as the Manager of Cooperation and Ventures of FIB UI, who introduced the history, vision, and various excellent programs of the Faculty of Humanities. Prof. Dr. Tsui-fen Jiang, Director of the Chinese Language Center NCCU, then introduced the role and activities of the language center. She then continued with a presentation on the Chinese Language Center’s flagship programs, including language training programs and international cooperation initiatives. Afterwards, Prof. Dr. Chin-chi Chao, Acting Dean of the College of Foreign Languages and Literature and Chair of the Department of Southeast Asian Languages and Cultures, explained the academic structure and development of Southeast Asian studies programs at NCCU.
Dr. Junaidi also shared information about FIB UI’s Short Course Program, which is intended for international students who want to study Indonesian language and culture intensively. This program is part of FIB UI’s internationalization efforts in opening up cross-cultural learning spaces. After the presentation session, an interactive discussion between the two parties took place. This discussion became a space for exploring further collaboration opportunities in the form of student exchanges, research collaborations, double degree programs, and lecturer exchanges between universities.
One of the main results of the discussion was an agreement to immediately implement several forms of concrete cooperation between FIB UI and NCCU. The focus of cooperation includes the implementation of short-term programs such as short-term programs or summer programs, student and lecturer exchanges, internship programs for students, and the development of distance learning. Both parties expressed their commitment to immediately design a framework for implementing the cooperation, starting with the exchange of information and the preparation of a joint schedule in the near future.
The meeting was closed with a souvenir exchange procession as a form of appreciation and strengthening of institutional relations, as well as a photo session with all delegates. From NCCU, the delegation consisted of Prof. Dr. Tsui-fen Jiang (Director of Chinese Language Center), Prof. Dr. Chin-chi Chao (Acting Dean of College of Foreign Languages and Literature, Chair of Department of Southeast Asian Languages and Cultures), Dr. Silvia R. Ginting (Assistant Professor Department of Southeast Asian Languages and Cultures), and Mr. Yuan-Ting Lim (Operations and Program Coordinator, Center for Southeast Asian Socio-Cultural Studies). From FIB UI, Dr. Junaidi, S.S., M.A. (Manager of Cooperation and Venture), Dr. Adi Kristina (Head of the Chinese Studies Program), Amelia Burhan, Ph.D. (Head of the East Asian Studies Program), Ms. Chysanti Arumsari, M.A. (Head of Public Relations and Protocol), Dr. Rahadjeng Pulungsari Hadi and Ms. Dillah Kencono (representatives of senior lecturers from the Chinese Studies Program), and representatives of Chinese Study Program students were present.
This visit is expected to be the beginning of ongoing cooperation between FIB UI and NCCU, as well as strengthening FIB UI’s international academic network in the field of language, culture, and Asian studies. (Trans. RMRW)
