The Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Indonesia (FIB UI), continues to organize collaborative activities that strengthen the role of cultural education across different sectors. In early November, ten international students from the Indonesian and English Study Program of Asia University, Japan, together with the FIB UI Cooperation Office, carried out two main activities: a visit to SMK Mitra Industri MM2100 Cikarang and a cultural practice class on making nasi tumpeng.
The visit to SMK Mitra Industri MM2100 was part of FIB UI’s efforts to open opportunities for collaboration, introduce FIB’s academic environment, and explore potential partnerships in language and cultural education.
Meanwhile, on 6 November, FIB UI held a cultural practice class focusing on the making of nasi tumpeng as part of the Indonesian language class. This activity was designed to introduce Indonesian culinary culture to international students, particularly those from Asia University.
The practice session was led by Dr. Sri Munawarah and attended by Asia University students participating in the Indonesian and English Study Program. During the session, students were introduced to the main ingredients of nasi tumpeng. They then practiced assembling and decorating a large tumpeng, while also creating smaller individual versions.
Through this activity, students not only learned the language but also gained an understanding of the cultural values embedded in Indonesian culinary traditions. The FIB UI Cooperation office hopes that activities like this will continue to strengthen cultural exchange and create richer learning experiences for international students. (Trans-CA)
