On July 15, Faculty of Humanities Universitas Indonesia Lecturer (Department of Literature and English Studies Program) Prof. Manneke Budiman joined leading academics and scholars from Europe and Southeast Asia at the University of the Philippines Center for Women’s and Gender Studies (UPCWGS), UP Diliman, for the opening ceremony of the European Association for Southeast Asian Studies (EuroSEAS) PhD Masterclass 2025.
The three-day program, held annually in different countries, offers mentorship to selected PhD students researching diverse and interdisciplinary topics in Southeast Asian studies. Prof. Budiman was among the distinguished mentors for this year’s cohort, alongside Dr. Sayamol Charoenratana of Chulalongkorn University, Prof. Reza Idria of State Islamic University Ar-Raniry, UPCWGS Director Marie Aubrey Villaceran, and Università di Milano-Bicocca Professor and former EuroSEAS President Silvia Vignato.
The event opened with remarks from UP President Angelo Jimenez, Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs Ma. Theresa Payongayong, UPCWGS Director Villaceran, EuroSEAS Board Member and UPCWGS Fellow Eloisa Hernandez, and Prof. Vignato.
Prof. Budiman’s participation underscores Universitas Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening international academic collaboration and advancing Southeast Asian studies. Through the EuroSEAS PhD Masterclass, he continues to support the development of young scholars while contributing to global discourse on the region’s dynamic cultural and social landscapes. (RMRW)
