The Faculty of Humanities of Universitas Indonesia (FIB UI) took part in the 80th anniversary of the birth of Pancasila through the organization of the “80 Years of Pancasila: Grounding Pancasila/ 80 Tahun Pancasila: Membumikan Pancasila ” held on Saturday, July 19, 2025. This activity is the result of cooperation between FIB UI and the Pancasila Ideology Development Agency (BPIP) and presents technology-based innovation in the form of the launch of Pancasila VR (Virtual Reality) which takes place at the Makara Art Center UI.
The event, which aims to re-ground the values of Pancasila in the lives of today’s generation, presented the Head of BPIP, Prof. Drs. K.H. Yudian Wahyudi, M.A., Ph.D., as the keynote speaker. Meanwhile, a number of prominent speakers were also present, including Prof. Dr. Amin Abdullah, Dr. Haryatmoko, Reni Suwarso, Ph.D., and Dr. Bondan Kanumoyoso, S.S., M.Hum., Dean of FIB UI. The event was hosted by Dr. Ngatawi Al Zastrouw, Director of Makara Art Center UI, who acted as moderator.
In his speech, Dr. Bondan Kanumoyoso emphasized the importance of the eight-decade momentum of Pancasila as a reflective invitation to the relevance of the values of the state foundation that was coined by Bung Karno on June 1, 1945. According to him, Pancasila is the meeting point of Indonesia’s diversity – an ethical and spiritual guide capable of uniting the nation in a spirit of unity. Dr. Bondan also emphasized the important role of universities, especially the University of Indonesia, in maintaining, practicing, and developing the values of Pancasila through education, research, and community service.
Furthermore, the Dean of FIB UI said that Pancasila is not just a collection of five principles that are memorized, but must also be present in the attitudes and actions of citizens, including in the campus environment. In facing various global challenges such as environmental crisis, technological disruption, and social polarization, the noble values of Pancasila such as divinity, humanity, unity, deliberation, and social justice, remain an important foundation in answering the challenges of the times.
Vice Chairman of the Steering Committee of BPIP, General (Ret.) TNI Try Sutrisno, emphasized the importance of upholding the values of Pancasila amidst the challenges posed by a liberal-capitalist lifestyle. He also highlighted that collaboration among academics, veterans, and the younger generation, through programs such as Genziara and the dissemination of academic manuscripts on university campuses, is a strategic step toward achieving Indonesia Emas 2045
The launch of “Pancasila VR (Virtual Reality)” in this event symbolizes an innovative effort to introduce and internalize the values of Pancasila to the younger generation through interactive virtual media. This initiative is one of the concrete forms of “grounding” Pancasila in the current context – presenting the value experience in a form that can be directly felt by the wider community, especially among students and students.
With the spirit of this commemoration, FIB UI invites all people, especially the younger generation, to make Pancasila an inspiration in shaping superior character, integrity, and national spirit. (Trans. RMRW)
