Vision

To be the leading English Studies Program in the study of culture of the English-speaking societies.

Missions

English Studies program aims to:
1. Provide education and produce interdisciplinary research in accordance with the culture of English-speaking societies with a global perspective.
2. Produce graduates who are critical, creative, knowledgeable on the culture of English-speaking societies, and able to compete in the global stage.
3. Develop collaborations on national and international levels in order to improve the quality of education and its application.

GRADUATE PROFILE AND COMPETENCIES

1. Profile of English Studies Program Graduate
Graduates of English Studies Program can apply the principles of scientific thought to identify and to analyze various issues in cultural and linguistic fields that are related to English-speaking societies from Indonesian perspective, maintain effective communication in English provide services that requires the mastery of English, and apply intercultural concept and knowledge to play an active role as the agents of social change.

2. Core Competencies
a) To be able to analyze contemporary cultural issues related to English-speaking societies from both Indonesian and intercultural perspectives and to find the solutions to such issues;
b) To be able to produce both verbal and written discourses with different registers in accordance with the acceptable English language structure and convention;
c) To be able to analyze linguistic phenomena in the socio-cultural context of English-speaking societies;
d) To be able to apply literary and cultural studies theories to analyze literary works and cultural phenomena of English-speaking societies;
e) To be able to analyze cultural, linguistic, and literary phenomena, in both verbal and written discourses, from the linguistic, literary, and cultural perspectives of English-speaking societies.

3. Supporting Competencies
a) To be able to formulate scientific ideas, both verbally and in written forms, using the standard Indonesian language;
b) To be able to apply the theories and research methods in cultural studies;
c) To be able to explain the characteristics and dynamics of Indonesian culture;
d) To be able to elaborate various philosophical and modern thoughts;
e) To be able to present the contemporary Indonesian people and society and their relationships with other nations in the global context;
f) To be able to conduct a critical review of creative works within the global dynamics;
g) To be able to initiate social and cultural changes that are based on the values of justice and honesty which are learned through a critical cross-cultural learning process;
h) To be able to apply the basic principles of translating, language teaching, and creative writing;
i) To be able to apply the correct English language convention and the theories of popular writing in producing different written works, such as academic papers, poems, prose, and theater plays.

4. Other Competencies
a) To be able to use information and communication technology;
b) To be able to think in a critical, creative, and innovative manners and to have intellectual curiosity to solve problems both at the individual level and as a group;
c) To be able to use both spoken and written Indonesian and English in a correct and proper manner for academic and non-academic activities;
d) To be able to behave with integrity and to respect others;
e) To be able to identify a variety of entrepreneurial efforts that are characterized by ethical innovation and autonomy.
