The Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Indonesia (FIB UI) held the Closing Ceremony of the Indonesian and English Language Study Program on Friday, July 24, 2026, at the Toeti Heraty N. Roosseno Auditorium, FIB UI. This event marked the culmination of a collaborative program between FIB UI and the Faculty of Global Liberal Studies, Nanzan University, Japan, which had been running since July 6, 2026. The ceremony opened with remarks from the Dean of FIB UI, Dr. Untung Yuwono, S.S., followed by remarks from Prof. Mikihiro Moriyama representing Nanzan University. In their speeches, both parties expressed their appreciation for the successful implementation of the program and voiced their hope that academic cooperation and cultural exchange between Universitas Indonesia and Nanzan University will continue to flourish in the future. The event was also attended by the Manager of Cooperation and Ventures, Dr. Junaidi, S.S., alongside the lecturers of the program.
Highlighting the cultural immersion aspect of the program, students from Nanzan University wore traditional attire from various regions across Indonesia, symbolizing the richness of Nusantara (the Indonesian archipelago). Two male students wore traditional attire from Papua and Kalimantan, while nine female students wore traditional dress representing East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Bali, Java, Gorontalo, Malay, Palembang, Padang (West Sumatra), North Sumatra, and Makassar (South Sulawesi). Wearing these traditional garments served as a meaningful gesture of appreciation for the Indonesian culture they explored throughout the program.
The event proceeded with the presentation of certificates to all Nanzan University students in recognition of their participation and dedication. Additionally, representatives of the Indonesian language instructors, culture class faculty, and fieldwork facilitators shared their reflections on the program’s journey. Attendees were also treated to a recap video of program activities and a video featuring student testimonials, capturing the dynamic academic and cultural experiences shared over the past few weeks. The ceremony concluded with a photo session and a warm networking reception among students, lecturers, instructors, student buddies, committee members, and FIB UI leadership.
Through the Indonesian and English Language Study Program, FIB UI and Nanzan University have reaffirmed their joint commitment to strengthening international cooperation through language learning, cultural exchange, and cross-border academic experiences. This program is expected to serve as a strong foundation for even closer collaboration and broader opportunities in the years ahead. (SM)
