The Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Indonesia (FIB UI), received an official visit from the Governor of South Papua, Prof. Dr. Ir. Apolo Safanpo, S.T., M.T., on Wednesday, July 22, 2026. The meeting served as an initial step toward establishing strategic partnerships in education, culture, and human resource development between the Provincial Government of South Papua and Universitas Indonesia.
During the visit, the Governor of South Papua was accompanied by the Head of the Regional Planning, Research, and Innovation Agency (Bapperida) of South Papua, Dr. Ulmi Listianingsih Wayeni, and the Head of the Environmental, Forestry, and Land Services (DLHKP) of South Papua, Jujuk Riyanto. The delegation was received directly by the Dean of FIB UI, Dr. Untung Yuwono, S.S., alongside faculty leadership, including the Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs, Rouli Esther, S.S., M.Si., M.A., Ph.D.; the Vice Dean for Resources, Ventures, and General Administration, Lily Tjahjandari, S.S., M.Hum., Ph.D.; and the Manager of Cooperation and Ventures, Dr. Junaidi.
The meeting was also attended by representatives from the Directorate of Community Engagement and Social Innovation (DPIS) UI, namely the Head of Sub-directorate at DPIS UI, Widhyasmaramurti, S.S., M.A., M.P.P., and DPIS UI staff member Dwi Kristianto, M.Kesos., as well as a Papua expert from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) UI, Prof. Dr. Bambang Shergi Laksmono. This cross-disciplinary presence underscores Universitas Indonesia’s comprehensive commitment to supporting regional development in Eastern Indonesia.
The warm discussion centered on potential areas of concrete collaboration, including academic research, the mapping and preservation of South Papua’s local culture, human resource capacity building, and the design of sustainable development programs rooted in local potential. Through this synergy between FIB UI’s academic expertise and the South Papua Provincial Government, the partnership is expected to make meaningful contributions to regional progress and the preservation of Indonesia’s cultural heritage.
