Guest Lecture of the Department of Library and Information, FIB UI: Open Data in Action – Visualizing Indonesia’s Digital Divide Through Open Government Data Principles

The Department of Library and Information Science at the Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Indonesia, organized a guest lecture titled “Open Data in Action: Visualizing Indonesia’s Digital Divide Through Open Government Data Principles” on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, from 16:00 to 18:00 WIB via Zoom Meeting. The event featured Hanim Maria Astuti, S.Kom., M.Sc., Ph.D., a lecturer at the Department of Information Systems, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), and also Expert Staff of the ITS Board of Trustees (MWA), as the keynote speaker.

The guest lecture discussed the challenges of digital inequality in Indonesia, which remains a significant issue for national development. This disparity is evident in differences in internet access and infrastructure between urban and rural areas, as well as between provinces. By applying the principles of Open Government Data (OGD), information related to the digital divide can be visualized more clearly, supporting policy evaluation and data-driven decision-making.

During the session, Hanim Maria Astuti explained the use of open data from various official sources, including the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), Satu Data Indonesia, and the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo), to visualize the distribution of internet access across Indonesia. The speaker also highlighted challenges in Indonesia’s open data ecosystem, such as data quality limitations, interoperability issues, and the need to improve data literacy.

The event was attended by students, lecturers, and practitioners interested in the development of open data and public information digitization. The guest lecture not only provided practical insights on open data visualization but also encouraged participants to adopt a data-driven approach in analyzing social and development issues. (LS)
