FIB UI Collaborates with Seoul Youth Overseas Volunteer 2024 to Campaign “Jagat Asri, Budaya Lestari” through Tree Planting

Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Indonesia (FIB UI) collaborated with KOWORKS, a company that specializes in international development cooperation, contributes to the realization of global value, and performs maintenance and management, cleaning, and security services for businesses, organized a tree planting activity on Saturday, July 27, 2024. This event was held as part of the Seoul Youth Overseas Volunteer Period 2 activity in 2024 which was attended by 110 participants consisting of 70 students from South Korea and 40 FIB UI students.

This activity is also part of the “Jagat Asri, Budaya Lestari” campaign, which is a simultaneous movement of the Faculty of Humanities (FIB UI) community and partners in implementing environmentally friendly behavior and culture and a manifestation of FIB UI’s commitment to support the Universitas Indonesia Rector’s Decree Number 2893/SK/R/UI/2018 concerning the Universitas Indonesia Green Campus Policy to realize the improvement of the Key Performance Indicator in the field of sustainability in the UI GreenMetric Rankings.

FIB UI is expected to be an agent of change that plays a role in creating a conducive and sustainable environment that is comfortable, clean, green, beautiful, and healthy for everyone who has activities on campus. The Green Metric FIB UI activity with KOWORKS started at 09.00 WIB with the opening from both sides.

The event was opened by the Vice Dean for Academic, Research, and Student Affairs of FIB UI, Dr. Untung Yuwono. In his speech, Dr. Untung Yuwono expressed his excitement and pride for the implementation of the program designed to increase cross-cultural understanding and valuable experience of community service for students participating in the program. Of the various activities carried out, tree planting is one of the key activities that is very impactful because FIB UI has committed to supporting environmental preservation which is also in line with the UI GreenMetric program.

KOWORKS, represented by Mr. Bong Seung-kwon, said that this was a meaningful event, which brought the young generation from both countries to plant trees and create a natural environment for the future. Mr. Bong believes that the future development of both countries will become brighter when the younger generations interact and work together.

The event continued with symbolic tree planting from representatives of the leadership of both parties in the parking area of building III and then continued with tree planting by Seoul Youth Overseas Volunteer participants in several locations in the FIB UI Campus environment, namely the edge of the lake behind building X (7 trees), open class area building IV (2 trees), open class area building VI (2 trees), prayer room post (1 tree), bridge area (1 tree), lakeside or terraces (2 trees), and canteen garden (1 tree). The trees planted are various types of plants such as Shrimp Fir (Casuarina equisetifolia), Putri Anting (Wrightia religiosa) durian trees, avocado trees, mahogany trees, and Tanjung trees. While the tree planting event was running, Dr. Untung introduced the names of places in the FIB UI area and exactly at 10.00 WIB the event was over.

The cooperation agenda with KOWORKS is expected to be sustainable in the future and consistently carry out activities that support sustainability. Awarded as the 2nd most sustainable faculty at the University of Indonesia according to UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2023, FIB UI continues to strive to collaborate with various parties in increasing the participation of its academic community in preserving the environment.
